To have an efficient flow through process stations

Have minimal or no process movement because the added value processing phases are interconnected and close to each other. Possibly the pieces flow individually, one at a time, between the process points.

The various production phases (specialized departments) are no longer considered individually but the production process is evaluated in its entirety with a complete layout.

Give greater importance to the quality of the process than that of batches. If quality checks are needed, they can be performed by the multi-function operators themselves.
